Remembering Willard Dougall (1938 – 2025)

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Willard Dougall, founder of Dougall Baillie Associates, who passed away peacefully in hospital after a short illness, aged 87.

Willard established Dougall Baillie Associates in 1985, following his time at Scott Wilson Kilpatrick. From an initial team of just three, he built the company into the thriving consultancy we are today (now with over 40 staff) as we proudly mark our 40th anniversary this year.

A highly respected figure in Civil and Transportation Engineering, Willard’s career was defined by vision, innovation, and determination. His key involvement in projects such as the Renfrew Motorway and Braehead Shopping Centre demonstrated his ingenuity in overcoming complex access and infrastructure challenges. Under his leadership, Dougall Baillie Associates consistently punched above its weight, competing successfully with major multinational firms.

Together with the late George Baillie, Willard led the company for 15 years before passing the reins to the next generation of directors. He continued as CEO for several years, offering guidance and support to the new management team until his retirement in the mid-2000s.

In retirement, Willard remained active in his passions -particularly golf, serving as Captain of Pollok Golf Club in 2013, and supporting his local GHA Rugby Club, where he was a well-known face just a short walk from home.

Willard’s funeral will take place at 3pm on Friday 10 October at The Hurlet Crematorium, followed by a gathering at GHA Rugby Club.

At the family’s request, no flowers please – donations can instead be made to Mearns Kirk Helping Hands.

Willard leaves behind an enduring legacy in our industry and in the company he built with such pride and care. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and worked with him.
